Cape petrel

Another experiment used cod liver oil, crude krill extract, and the krill odor components trimethylamine and pyrazine, with phenylethanol (rose odor) as control. Several procellariiform species were attracted to krill extract. The krill odor components attracted giant petrels, cape petrels, blue petrels, Antarctic petrels, Kerguelen petrels, and black-browed albatrosses. Cape petrels were more attracted to trimethylamine than to pyrazine and cod liver oil hut blue petrels responded most to cod liver oil (Nevitt, 1999). 

Dove, Cape Petrel, and Antarctic Fulmar. The olfactory nerve bundle remains attached to the pigeon s bulbs. Anterior is down. Calibration line is 1 cm. 

Snow Petrels (Pagodroma nivea). Cape Petrels (Daption capense), and Southern Giant Petrels (Macronectes giganteus) were also attracted although Antarctic Fulmars (Fulmarus glacialoides) passed by the lure without showing any awareness of it (Jouventin and Robin, 1984). The brains of these four species are shown in Fig. 2.
