The failure of cw,cw-cycIodeca-l,6-diene to polymerize has been discussed earlier (Section 12.3.1). In conjunction with WCle it is said to catalyze the polymerization of c/s,cjs-cycloocta-l,5-diene and of cyclododecene at 20°C (Kupper 1979). 

The two-phase permanganate oxidation of olefins generally affords products of oxidative cleavage. Weber and Shepherd found that when benzyltriethylammonium chloride was used as catalyst and the temperature was maintained near 0°C, internal olefins were oxidized by basic permanganate in dichloromethane to the corresponding czs-glycols in moderate yields (Eq. 11.3) [6]. Cyclohexene, c/s-cyclooctene and trans-cyclododecene were dihydroxylated by this method in 15%, 50%, and 50% yields... 

The photosystem with RhCl(CO)(PMe3)2 can also be used for the photodehydrogenation of cyclododecane to cyclododecene, and in general the photosystem can be used for the conversion of alkanes into alkenes/ These observations can be explained on the basis of the conversion shown in Scheme 3.5, where the intermediate rhodium alkyl complex can either undergo insertion of carbon monoxide into the rhodium-carbon bond, or it can undergo )S-hydrogen transfer to yield the alkene. The photoreaction with RhCl(CO)(PMe3)2 can also be used for the insertion of terminal alkynes into aliphatic C-H bonds.
