Butyric Acid Infrared Spectrum

Marked changes in the infrared spectrum of bile were found after the administration of the following compounds 2-(l-hydroxycyclohexyl) butyric acid, 1,4-0-dicaffeylquinic acid, or iV-(p-hydroxyphenyl) salicylamide. All these compounds caused new bands to occur. The first compound caused a new band at 830cm , the second compound caused new ones at 1396, 1261, and 1170cm , and the third produced new bands at 1512, 1175, 832, and 754cm . The absorption of bile acid weakened in intensity, but did not disappear, as was the case with some of the choleretics mentioned earlier. After the administration of the quinic acid compound, the absorption of lecithin characteristically disappeared. [Pg.415]
