Buscopan/glucagon

Explain the actions and uses of Buscopan, glucagon, metoclopramide and loperamide as adjuncts to radiography. [Pg.267]

Buscopan or glucagon is used to inhibit gastrointestinal activity while imaging is taking place. Metoclopramide is used to speed up transit time of barium in follow-through examination... [Pg.265]

The routine administration of a spasmolytic agent (Buscopan or Glucagon) is recommended for all pelvic MR examinations to reduce peristalsis-related motion artifacts, unless patients have contraindications to these agents. A longer-lasting effect is achieved with the IM injection of 40 mg Buscopan as compared with IV administration of this spasmolytic... [Pg.28]

During endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, Buscopan or glucagon is used to inhibit duodenal motility but produce adverse effects. Various concentrations of peppermint oil were introduced into the upper gastrointestinal tract of 40 patients undergoing the procedure. Duodenal relaxation was obtained with 20 mL of 1.6% peppermint oil solution, and the procedure was performed successfully in 91.4% of patients. The inhibitory effect of peppermint oil appeared to be identical to that of glucagon but without side effects (Yamamoto et al., 2006). [Pg.403]

Goei et al. (Gobi et al. 1995) found Buscopan to be more effective in distending the colon than glucagon, which is in agreement with the findings of both Yee et al. (Yee et al. 1999 ) and Morrin et al. (Morrin et al. 2002) who found that colonic distention was not improved after glucagon administra-... [Pg.88]

The use of a spasmolytic agent (hyoscine butylbro-mide, Buscopan , or glucagon) may provide better dis-... [Pg.426]
