X-Ray studies indicate that in the strained molecules acetylcitran (162 R = COMe) and formylcitran (162 R = CHO), the aromatic ring shows considerable deviation from planarity and assumes a shallow boat form (77JCS(Pl)2393). The isoprenylated coumarin bruceol (163) also contains the citran unit and crystallographic data are available both for it and deoxy-bruceol (77JCS(P1)2402>. [Pg.622]
