In Britain, Thomas Hills and Uriah Haddock used pyrites at Bromley-by-Bow, but only for a short period. A patent on their process appeared in 1818 (No. 4263). The pyrites process was utilized on a larger scale by Thomas Farmer Company at Kennington in 1838, who had been one of die earliest entrants into the Chamber acid business in 1778. Pyrites had only come into their own as a serious sulfur source for sulfuric acid manufacturing after the TAC episode and the associated Sulfur War (see Chapter 3). [Pg.21]
