Bridging iodide

The complexes exhibit reversible oxidations to the [Os2Xg] analogs and irreversible reductions (522, 523). Decomposition and substitution chemistry of the complexes has also been studied (302,523). The tetra-meric complex [I40s0sl2(/A-I)2l20s0sl4]2 contains two [Os2Is] units fused together via two bridging iodides, as shown by X-ray diffraction... 

Linear single bridges have been found in the structures of -iodo-bis[tris(2-diphenylarsino-ethyl)aminenickel(I)] tetraphenylborate52 and /z-iodo-bis[tetrakis(phenyl isocyanide)iodocobalt(II)] iodide.53 In both cases the metal to bridging iodide distance is long (Ni—12.994 A, Co—I 2.891 A) and this is rationalized in terms of the steric requirements of the phenyl rings on the ligands. 

A different pathway (two-electron transfer via bridging iodide) has been proposed for the iodine-catalyzed transformation of MoCareneXCO), into Mo(CO)s.

Unlike the cuboidal stnicture of its chloride analog 13,14 has a cubane structure in which all twelve edges are bonding interactions. All the iodides in 14 are (X3-coordinated to metal ions and each lithium ion is coordinated to one diethyl ether molecule and three bridging iodides.
