Boron trifluonde

Molybdenum hexafluoride, in the presence of boron trifluonde, reacts with acetic acid and haloacetic acids at 130-160 °C to give respectively, 1,1,1 tri fluoroethane and 1,1 1 trifluorohaloetlianes in 60-89% yields [2d0, 241] Prolonged treatment of pyridine mono and dicarboxylic acids with an excess of molybdenum hexafluoride at elevated temperatures provides the respective mono-and bis(trifluoromethyl)pyridines in good yields [241] (equation 127)... 

Oxiranes exhibit 1,3 [e,n] capacity. Therefore, seven-membered ring systems can be synthesized on reaction with hetero-1,3-dienes. The reaction is catalyzed by 4-dimethylaminopyridine. On catalysis with boron trifluonde, the regioche-mistry is reversed [263] (equation 58). 

The reactions of some fluonnated ethers may result in the elimination of alkyl fluorides In the case of 2-methoxyperfluoro-2-butene, treatment with antimony pentafluonde gives perfluoro-3-buten-2-one and methylfluoride [7071 By reacting 2-chloro-l,l,2-trifluorodiethyl ether with boron trifluonde etherate or with aluminum chloride, chlorofluoroacetyl fluonde can be obtained with the elimination of ethyl fluonde [108] (equations 76 and 77)...
