Biological Synthesis of Glutathione

The incorporation of marked L-glutamic acid, a reaction corresponding to the formation of a y-peptide linkage, also requires the participation of a high-energy phosphate source, ATP or ADP. 

The enzymes which catalyze the incorporation of glycine into glutathione are extractable. In pigeon liver, it is only these soluble enzymes which take part in the synthesis, whereas the insoluble particulate matter shows no enzymatic activity (325).
