In the present review, we summarize the occurrence, biogenesis, biological activity, and the chemistry of carbazole alkaloids, which have been classified based on their natural sources, ring system, and substitution pattern. While a comprehensive overview is given on all carbazole alkaloids isolated from natural sources, only their total syntheses published since 1990 are discussed. [Pg.1]

This chapter is focused on madangamines, a small group of complex diamine alkaloids Isolated from marine sponges of the order Haplosclerlda, and covers their Isolation, characterization, biogenesis, biological activity, and synthesis. Structurally, madangamines are pentacyclic alkaloids with an unprecedented skeletal type. [Pg.159]

In this chapter, some of the latest developments in the groups of natural products collectively known as the quinolin/one, quinazolin/one, and acridone alkaloids are presented. Emphasis is placed on their biogenesis, biological activities, and... [Pg.715]

ABSTRACT This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of the sulfur-containing natural products that are non-sulfated and have been isolated from marine organisms. The overview covers the published literature from 1985 to 1999. A total of 482 compounds and 371 references are recorded. These secondary metabolites are organized in sections according to structural classifications by sulfur functional groups and by structural families of compounds. Comments on structural characterization, biogenesis, and biological activity have also been included. [Pg.811]

Because of their suitable skeletal structure trans-CHD are applicable in the synthesis of compound classes of chemical, biological, and pharmaceutical interest. Regio- and stereoselective epoxidation of either one or two double bonds of 2, for example, opens up an approach to a group of naturally occurring cyclohexane epoxides which have attracted considerable attention because of their unusual structures, biogenesis, and biological activity [15]. [Pg.515]

Chiral discrimination has been recognized as one of the most important principles in biological activity and also odour perception [1-9]. Besides enantioselective biogenesis, the evaluation of chirality in the origin control of flavourings and fragrances has to be discussed with regard to some fundamental conditions. [Pg.664]

A general view concerning the chemical structure-biological activity relationship in the case of DNA-M adduct types reveals that studies in this domain, which were conducted between 1970 and 1980, dealt with the physico-chemical aspects regarding the consequences of interaction, as well as with the mechanism of adducts biogenesis. [Pg.407]
