There are many reports that less than five nucleotides are bound per Fj molecule (see review in Ref. 158). However, the total number of adenine nucleotide binding sites on beef heart MF, was finally established as six of which three are noncatalytic (AMP-PNP-binding) sites and three exchangeable catalytic sites [171]. The binding of nucleotides to noncatalytic sites is tight, but the bound nucleotides were removed with 50% glycerol, and the replaced radioactive nucleotides were not lost on further addition of nonradioactive nucleotides [171].
