As for the synthetic protocol in general, the catalyticaUy active metal center itself will be introduced only to the already prepared polymer, with very rare exceptions. 

A metal center which is sufficiently reactive to perform useful catalytic reactions will be susceptible to side reactions in most polymerization procedures.
