Big Island of Hawaii

Both the boiler and the eondenser were designed for a 5.5°C temperature approaeh, using the 27°C surfaee water for heating and 4°C water pumped from 663 m below the surfaee at a loeation 2.5 km off the west eoast of the big island of Hawaii.

This succession was explained by Chen and Frey (1983) by a gradual reduction of the extent of melting of the hthospheric mantle by heat emanating from the head of the large plume which is currently located beneath Mt. Kilauea on the island of Hawaii (i.e., the Big Island). The entire chain of Hawaiian volcanoes was formed from basalt magma that originated by partial melting caused by the plume which has remained stationary while the Pacific plate has moved over it in a northwesterly direction.
