Bicydo 4.3.1 decane

Since the advent of multipulse-NMR techniques, more detailed 1H-NMR studies on methylcyclo-hexanes547, phenylcyclohexanes548, neomenthyl halides549 and bicydo[4.4.0]decanes 550 551 have been undertaken. The two diastereomeric 4-fm-butyl-7,ll-diphenylspiro[5.5]undecane-1,9-diones (3) and (4) could be identified unambiguously552, and substituted spirodioxane cyclohexanes such as, 9- m-butyl-2-methyl-1.3-dioxaspiro[5.5]undecane (5), have also been investigated553,554.

Pyrolysis of ra/i5, ra/25 -l,6-cyclodecadiene at 200°C gives cw-bicydo[5.3.0]-deca-2-ene (72%) and both syn- and afxr/-tricyclo[5.3.0.0 ]decane (24 and 4%, respectively).A similar product distribution was obtained from cis,cis- fi-cyclodecadiene, but higher temperatures (320°C) were required. It is reasonable that a similar biradical is involved in both reactions (Scheme 11.103). 

The intermediacy of a carbene has also been proposed to explain the formation of bicydo[5.3.0]decane and bicyclo[4.4.0]decane from irradiation of the cis and trans isomers of cyclodecene (Figure 237)P ...
