Bickham, Willie

This evening I went with my wife to visit Mr. Bickham. Willie Pearl, Mrs. Lu, and Miz Gabe went along. The talk was mostly about old time dancing. Mr. Bickham was quite fond of the idea, and told us about old time fiddlers. The new dances, he said, didn t amount to nothing. But when the old folks useter dance, they just dansted until they was wet all over with sweat. There was old Doc, who could really fiddle a tune. Old Doc, he would come to a frolic, and all the boys and... 

On the way to Franklinton I picked up a man at Mr. Willie Bickham s store, Mr. Seymour. Mr. Willie s store got robbed t uther night, so Miz Bickham tole me. They took nigh about a thousand dollar worth of stuff out, so she said. The sheriff is atter em, she said. He thinks its been done by some of these folks that works in cahoots with these peddler folks, that goes aridin aroun the country sayin they sells lower than anybody else. That s how they kin do it, sez Miz Bickham, and they ain t got no license, either. 

Miz Lu and Willie Pearl had come to the house Saturday night, Miz Lu with one of the blanks. I advised her against doing it. Mr. Bickham...
