Inomata and co-workers, however, showed that simply by adding CuCl in place of CUCI2 to the reaction mixture of PdCl2(MeCN)2, olefin, and CO/O2 (1 1 atm) in MeOH/THF (1 1) at 25 °C one can obtain bicarboxylic esters instead of the monocar-boxylic ones predominantly. The result was interpreted as a consequence of the different medium acidity in the two cases. The authors believe that an initial attack of the methoxycarbonyl group on the olefin is likely.
