1.5- Benzodiazepines theoretical studies

Until further studies of clonazepam alone or as an adjunct in OCD are conducted, the physician should use benzodiazepines sparingly in this condition. In our clinical experience, benzodiazepines may help secondary anxiety, but are rarely useful for the core symptoms of OCD when they do seem to work, the anti-OC benefit is rarely sustained. Furthermore, a theoretical, albeit unproven, disadvantage of benzodiazepines is that they may impede the therapeutic effects of behavior therapy (H. H. Jensen et al. 1989]. [Pg.488]
