The reagent is generated in situ by sonication of benzeneselenenyl bromide and the insoluble silver fluoride in methylene chloride. From 1-hexene, the addition is not regiospecific, and a minor quantity of the anti-Markovnikov adduct is isolated. The reaction most likely occurs by a stereo-specific trans addition process.
