Benzene, 2,4-dinitrofluoro

Note This reagent sequence can be employed to great advantage after the prechromato-graphic derivatization of primary and secondary amines with 2,4-dinitrofluoro-benzene this makes for virtually specific detection of aliphatic amines. 

Identification of phenolic hydroxyl groups. The groups which are neutralized by sodium hydroxide, but not by the carbonate, and which give acid-resistant methoxy groups, seem to be phenols. This was confirmed (35, 46) by the reaction with typical phenol reagents, dinitrofluoro-benzene, and p-nitrobenzoylchloride (Table VIII). 

The step 4 product (1.0 mol) was converted into the corresponding dinitroaniline derivative by condensing with 2,4-dinitrofluoro benzene (1.0 mol) in dimethylformamide.
