Bennett Mrs. Leighton

Unfortunately, there is less information on the other tartrate twin, Dorothy Marguerite Bennett.82 Bennett was bom in 1884 and completed her B.Sc. in 1909 (the same year as Turner), with her M.Sc. granted in 1910. Again, like Turner, she initially proceeded into school teaching until requested to join the chemistry department of Sheffield in 1915. Bennett, too, kept her position of Assistant Lecturer after the end of the war, rising to Senior Lecturer, and in 1926 she was also appointed Tutor for women students. [Pg.193]

Bennett retired from her academic position in 1934, subsequently marrying Henry Birkett Leighton. However, she kept her post as Tutor for women students and added the role as warden of University (residence) Hall for Women (later called Halifax Hall) in 1936. She resigned from both these duties in 1947 and moved to Dartford. Bennett died on 11 May 1984 in Tunbridge Wells, 12 days after her 100th birthday.83 [Pg.193]
