Beam Reactions and Displacements

This appendix lists the reaction loads and displac ents for common simple beam configurations. Typically when these solutions are provided it is assumed that the beams are long slender beams (i.e., I Id or I Ih), such that the shear contribution to displac ent is negligible. However, polymers are often used in applications where the shear contribution to deflection, not only must be considered in some cases, it dominates. 

The coordinate system for all of the beams has the axes aligned with the left-hand side of the beam. The y axis is pointing down.
