Bandwidth of lasers

Laser Diodes. Laser diode spectrometers are still pretty much in the research stage. Although the cost of laser diodes has fallen over the last 20 years, this expense is stiU nontrivial. Where applicable, laser diode spectrometers offer definite advantages 1) The bandwidths of lasers are very narrow, and 2) the output intensity can be very high compared to other spectrometers. A schematic of a laser diode spectrometer is given in Figure 4.1.5.
