Large-colon impaction is characterized by distention of the large intestine with desiccated digesta. All segments of the large colon can be involved but the pelvic flexure and right dorsal colon are the most frequent sites of impaction. Impactions of the large colon are probably a combination of motility and fluid-balance disorders and most cases are treated with laxatives or hydration solutions. 

Use For prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting in relation to motion sickness. It can also be used for some balance disorders of the inner ear, e.g., Merniere s disease.

Observational studies A multicenter prospective study of patients taking lacosamide reported the following adverse effects dizziness (6.8%), headache (5.9%), somnolence, vomiting, and dyspepsia in 4.3% each, irritability (3.4%), and diplopia, paresthesias, balance disorder, and fatigue in less than 2% each [70 ]. 

Systematic reviews A systemic review and meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the association of severe adverse effects with lacosamide. The total number of patients included was 3148. The number of side effects associated with lacosamide increased in relation to dose One at 200 mg/day (dizziness) six at 400 mg/day (dizziness, vertigo, abnormal coordination, abnormal vision, nausea, and vomiting) nine at 600 mg/day (dizziness, vertigo, ataxia, balance disorder, diplopia, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, and tremor).
