Bacterial Nomenclature and Classification

Streptococcus genus, which are commonly associated with pyogenic or pus-producing characteristics. 

For the purpose of this chapter, bacteria are categorized according to the criteria outlined in Table 33-1. This classification scheme does not fully identify all of the various characteristics of the many bacterial families. The classifications listed in Table 33-1 are used here only to categorize bacteria according to the use of antibacterial agents, which are discussed later in this chapter under Specific Antibacterial Agents.
