Popular herbals throughout the twentieth century have generally echoed the earlier uses of this herb. Jethro Kloss, in his classic hook Back to Eden, says the berries are useful for respiratory problems and reproductive diseases, and he mentions an unusual use as a remedy for diabetes and Brighf s disease. Maude Grieve, in her impressive and influential text A Modern Herbal, states that saw palmetto acts on the urinary and respiratory tissue but is milder and less stimulant than cubeb or copaiba or even oil of sandalwood. Alma Hutchens, in her peculiar but popular Indian Herbology of North America, boldly states that saw palmetto is one of the "most beneficial agents of the Materia Medica." The uses in her book closely follow the suggestions found in Jethro Kloss s earlier book. [Pg.62]

Invertibility, at least as it pertains to automata systems, really dates back to Moore s introduction of the garden-of-eden concept [moore62] in 1962. The converse was proven by Myhill in 1963 [myhill63]. [Pg.371]

He gives it all to a man named Bezalel of the tribe of Judah, and Bezalel opens the gates for all humankind ... [Pg.343]

Fleetingly Sara and Grit are able to experience a moment of a shared past and a shared present of rest and peace You are my sister. 1 remember my face in the window. This remembered filial, fragile Eden is shattered by the violent intrusion of Jams, which is powerfully, visually pre-signed by Sara taking off her coat and putting it back on again. The inside is black and covered with bones. The costume embodies its own destructive dialectic and conflict. Simultaneously, shaman-like, it turns in upon itself to pre-empt Jam s entry characterised by his paranoiac survival instinct ... [Pg.116]
