Procedure Weigh accurately about 0.2 g, dissolve in 50 ml of dimethylformamide, add 2 drops of azo-violet solution and tirate with 0.1 N sodium methoxide to a deep blue end point, taking precautions to prevent absorption of atmospheric carbon dioxide. Perform a blank determination and make any necessary correction. Each ml of 0.1 N sodium methoxide is equivalent to 0.01412 g of C7HnN02. 

For detn of purity of TeNCbz, Kaye(Ref 4) developed at PicArsn a method of titration, using dimethyl formamide as a medium and a soln Na methoxide as the titrant. As the end point could not be detd visually(using azo violet as indicator) due to the darkening of the TeNCbz sample in the vicinity of its end point, a potentiometric procedure was used, employing antimony and calomel electrodes.

Tolbutamide in tablets and pure forms was dissolved in tetramethylurea and titrated with 0.1 N lithium methoxide in benzene-methanol medium, the end point was determined visually with 0.2% azo-violet in toluene as indicator (4).

Methyl red is similar to methyl orange except that the sulfonic acid group is replaced by a carboxylic acid group. Other azo dyes commonly used in nonaqueous solvents are azo violet and tropaeolin OO.
