Ascosalipyrrolidinone Plasmodium falciparum

The Ascomycete Ascochyta salicomiae, an endophyte of an undetermined Ulva harvested in the North Sea, was cultured to produce several original derivatives. Among them were ascosalipyrrolidinone A, an alkaloid containing tetramic acid and antimalarial for strains K1 and NF 54 of Plasmodium falciparum (Osterhage et al, 2000), and a series of polyketides including ascochitin, which is an inhibitor of protein phosphatases (Seibert et al, 2006, 2007). [Pg.525]
