Aryl and Aralkyl Ethers

As in the case of aliphatic ethers, the data available on aryl ethers are largely contained in the fairly extensive series of spectra of simple ethers of this type given by Barnes et al. t3]. In all of these a strong band is shown in the approximate region 1270—1230 cm and the comparison of ortho-, meta- and para-isomerides indicates that, in agreement with Colthup [2], the mefa-substituted materials show this band at slightly higher frequencies than the others. [Pg.132]

The work of Lecomte [ 1 ] also supports this assignment. In addition to a number of normal aryl ethers he has examined compounds of the series C6H50(CH2)/ OQH5, in which n is varied from 1 to 10. In all of these the strong bands near 1250 cm- remained stationary. In these spectra a second band occurs in the 1150—1060 cm- region which is probably due to the CH2—O— [Pg.132]
