Aromatic bromination, derivatizing

Fullerenes can be derivatized by various means. For example, reaction with fluorine gas proceeds stepwise to the formation of colorless CeoFeo, which, according to the 19F nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrum, contains just one type of F site and so evidently retains a high degree of symmetry.9 In view of the low adhesion typical of fluorocarbons, this spherical molecule is expected to have extraordinary lubricant properties. Curiously, bromination of Ceo is reversible on heating otherwise, the reactions of fullerenes resemble those of alkenes or arenes (aromatic hydrocarbons). [Pg.57]

Two derivatization methods for AAs based on the halogenation of the aromatic ring are presented. Bromination yields brominated anilines, in which all hydrogens in ortho- and para-positions are replaced by bromine via an electrophilic substimtion. In contrast, iodination yields the corresponding iodobenzenes, in which all amino groups are substimted by iodine. Derivatization is... [Pg.386]

GC Bromination of the aromatic ring system to yield the corresponding bromo derivatives The derivatization method is very easy to perform Certain analytes are not detected as intact brominated molecules because of the reported cracking they undergo under the bromination conditions and only qualitative conclusions can be drawn Dados et al.
