Application to the Deltahedral Boranes

There are several implications of the bonding model for delocalized deltahedral structures with n vertices using complete core bonding topology described by the corresponding K complete graph  [Pg.367]

The equality of the interactions between all possible pairs of unique internal orbitals required by the K model for the core bonding is obviously a very crude assumption since in any deltahedron with five or more vertices all pairwise relationships of the vertices are not equivalent. The example of the nonequivalence of the cis and trans vertex pairs in an octahedral structure such as B6H6 has already been discussed. However, the single eigenvalue of the K graph is so strongly positive that severe inequalities in the different vertex [Pg.367]

Vertices of degree 4 or greater appear to be essential for the stability of deltahedral boranes of the type Thus, although the borane anions [Pg.368]
