Application to hindered settling

The settling of particles, constrained to fixed positions, in a stagnant liquid is analogous to the permeametry situation where the liquid is moving and the bed is fixed. For a sedimenting suspension, the pressure head may be replaced by the gravitational minus the buoyant force on the particles  [Pg.32]

Replacing (ApIL) in the permeametry equation (equation 1.10) with the right hand side of this equation, the volume specific surface by 6/dgy, and eliminating (Ps-Pf)g using Stokes equation in the form [Pg.33]

This equation is very similar to the ones derived for the rate of fall of the interface for particles settling in a concentrated suspension with the replacement of d v with dgi. [Pg.33]
