Antithrombotic Trialists Collaboration. Collaborative meta-analysis of randomized trials of antiplatelet therapy for prevention of death, myocardial infarction, and stroke in high risk patients. BMJ 2002 324 71-86. [Pg.212]

By far, the most compeUing evidence for the use of any pharmacologic agent in PAD can be found with ASA. The Antithrombotic Trialists Collaboration (ATC) conducted a meta-analysis of 195 randomized trials, composed of over 135,000 patients at high risk for occlusive arterial disease, and concluded that low-dose ASA (75 to 160 mg) and medium-dose ASA (160 to 325 mg/day) lead to a significant reduction in serious vascular events (12%) in high-risk patients, such as those with PAD. It was also noted in this analysis that the risk of major extracranial bleed was similar between the low-dose and medium-dose regimens. [Pg.456]
