Antistatic agents with phosphorus

Organic phosphorus compounds are also produced in the interaction of wliite phosphorus with an epoxide or an episulfide and an alcohol or mercaptane in the presence of alkaline catalysts at 25 °C to 200 °C In order to remove P-H bonds the reaction mixture is treated witli formaldehyde and oxidized. The products are said to be useful as hardeners for epoxy resins or as antistatic agents and fire retardants. 

Antistatic agents that contain phosphorus can be used for all polymers, although they are recommended mainly for PVC with which they also function as plasticizers. They are phosphoric acid derivatives, phosphine oxide, triphosphoric acid derivatives, and substituted phosphoric amides. Typical examples are the following ... 

Vinyl fibers except for vinal and vinal-vinyon do not generally undergo specialized finishing, although antioxidants and antistatic agents may be used. Vinal and vinal-vinyon matrix fibers can be treated with urea-aldehyde based durable press finishes to improve their wrinkle recovery, and vinal can be made flame retardant with phosphorus-containing finishes used for cellulosics.
