Anticorrosion agents, chromate

Strontium chromate is used in the following applications as a pigment, as an anticorrosive agent in aluminum and magnesium alloys, in vinyl sheeting, and in chemical-resistant coatings. 

Chromates are still used as anticorrosion agents in water-cooling systems and paints. Their use persists in spite of their toxicity, because they are very effective, persistent, relatively inexpensive agents and do not form insoluble complexes as some other anticorrosion agents do.
