Anomeric effect in nucleosides

We will discuss later in more detail the anomeric effect in nucleosides, nucleotides, and nucleic acids and its influence on the conformation of the furanose ring and the chemical consequences due to its presence. 

The crystal structures of p-o-lV-nucleosides show that C1 -04 bond is 0.03-0.04 A shorter than the C4 -04 braid, which goes hand in hand with the possible hyperctai-jugative origin for the anomeric effect in nucleosides (Fig. 6.5, panel D).
