Anion detailed electronic configurations

The detailed electronic structures of monatomic ions may be deduced starting from the structures of the corresponding neutral atoms (presented in Chapter 4). Monatomic anions have simply added sufficient electrons to the outermost p subshell to complete that subshell. The + rule can be used to deduce the structure of the ion as well as that of the neutral atom. For example, the electronic configuration of the nitride ion (the anion of nitrogen) is deduced, starting with the configuration of nitrogen ... 

In spite of these developments. It Is important to realize that ETS provides no Information on the decay channels of temporary anions. Further progress toward a detailed understanding of resonances In complex molecules will require careful studies of the vibrational levels and electronically excited states of the neutral molecule which are formed upon electron detachment. These measurements provide essential data related to the electronic configuration of the anion and the distortion It undergoes during its lifetime. 

The AugY" anionic cluster is isoelectronic, with respect to valence electrons, with CuySc, and hence the same electronic configuration of lS lP, lPy 1D is observed [60]. AugY" has a perfect point group, and a detailed investigation showed that it is indeed aromatic. However, its neutral state can be described with the lS lP,, lPy lDjj, 1D 2 2 configuration, which results in a Jahn-Teller...
