Aniline, reactions with sugars

In order to eliminate the multistep reactions required for gly copolymer synthesis, free reducing sugars were used directly for the reaction with hydrazide functional polymer (Fig. 9) tmder acidic conditions in the presence of aniline catalyst [71]. 

Aldoses can be selectively removed from aqueous solutions containing ketoses and non-reducing sugars by reaction with aniline in the presence of acetic acid as catalyst, and extraction of the products... 

In the derivatization of sugars with aniline-diphenylamine reagent for example, this leads to unsatisfactory irregular coloration. The standard deviation for the method deteriorates from 2 to 3% to 5 to 8%. For this reason color reactions should be avoided for direct quantitation if it is possible to scan in the UV range without derivatization. 

Nitrogen Compounds. Previous methods for oxidizing anilines to nitro compounds with Oxone/acetone were ineffective with carboxylic acid and alcohol-containing systems. A new method using Oxone and acetone under totally aqueous conditions allows oxidation of carboxylic and alcoholic anilines as well (eq 51). In this case the reaction occurred in the absence of acetone but yields were significantly lower. The combination of Oxone and ozone has been used to oxidize amino sugars to nitro sugars as well (eq 52). ... 

An intramolecular Friedel—Crafts reaction of anilines with aryl-substituted proparyl alcohols provides 4,5-fused tricyclic quinoline derivatives in a one-pot process. The reaction involves four separate steps but produces the fused quinohnes in moderate yields (31—84%) (14TL6726). In a similar reaction, aryl amines are catalyzed by a Au(I)/Ag(I) co-catalyst to react with an O-phenylpropynyl sugar aldehyde to form fused quinoline derivatives in good yields (14TL6081).
