Cataplexy A sudden attack of muscle weakness with retention of clear consciousness that follows a strong emotional stimulus (e.g., elation, surprise, or anger) a characteristic symptom of narcolepsy. 

However, with the overthrowing of the regime of De Witt and the installation of stadtholder Willem iii in 1672, the hard-line Calvinists became more influential and the Cartesians were out of favour. As another example, suppose you learn that a rival, let s call him John, has just received a major promotion that you believe should have gone to you. Your deep-level response is envy and anger and wanting somehow to attack John, but, for whatever reasons, envy and anger are completely unacceptable to you. As a result of reaction formation operating almost instantly, you don t feel any anger or desire to attack. Instead you feel a burst of Christian charity and enthusiastically tell your friends how... 

In these cases, the preferred strategy is to treat the primary disorder. There have been indications (Fava 1993) that some angry outbursts may be similar to panic attacks, but instead of flight/ fear there is fight/ anger. It has been shown to be responsive to antidepressant medications. In addition, there are a number of medications listed below that have a somewhat nonspecific antiaggression effect. In choosing a medication it is helpful to choose on the basis of associated features. 

There are two chief motives which induce men to attack tyrannies - hatred and contempt. Hatred of tyrants is inevitable, and contempt is a Iso a frequent cause of their destruction. Thus we see that most of those who have acquired, have retained their power but those who have inherited it have lost it, almost at once for living in luxurious ease, they have become contemptible, and offer many opportunities to their assailants. Anger, too, must be included under hatred, and produces the same effects. It is often even more ready to strike - the angry are more impetuous in making an attack, for they do not follow rational principle.
