Analytical techniques for MCDs

Mix a small amount of methyl-CD products with KBr. Grind the solid mixture and tablet for detection. The difference in structure and formation could be confirmed by comparing with the native CDs. The hydroxyl absorption of methylated CDs is obviously weakened at 3,200-3,700 cm since the methyl broke the hydrogen 

The MCD mixture could be determined and purified by thin-layer chromatography. Dissolve methyl CD and native CD and then spot on the silica gel chromatography plate. The developing agent is 100 2 chloroform/methanol mixture solvent. A higher DS resulted in the longer developing distance.
