Analysis of Single Airborne Particles by LIMS

The authors call their equipment LAMPAS 2 (Laser Mass Analyser for Particles in the Airborne State), the complete system being mounted on a movable rack on wheels with a height of 120 cm, a length of 170 cm and a depth of 80 cm. The total weight is about 250 kg. The operation is as follows  

The spectra are characterised by high signals of lithium, sodium, magnesium, aluminium, calcium and iron and their oxides. A high signal from hydroxyl ions was observed, which indicates a high water content of the particle.
