Amylose spectral study

One of the more important applications of methyl sulfoxide as a sugar solvent is for n.m.r. spectral studies, where, in conjunction with acetone-de, it has been used because exchange reactions are suppressed191 (see the n.m.r. section, p. 124). Methyl sulfoxide dissolves both amylose and amylopectin,192 and these can then be separated by the judicious use of co-solvents after dissolution.193 Ultracentri-... [Pg.108]

Table 2.2c lists the vibrational frequencies of triatomic halogeno compounds. The resonance Raman spectrum of the I3 ion gives a series of overtones of the Vi vibration [408,409]. The resonance Raman spectra of the l2Br and IBr2 ions and their complexes with amylose have been studied [410]. The same table also lists the vibrational frequencies of XHY-type (X,Y halogens) compounds. All these species are linear except the ClHCl ion, which was found to be bent by an inelastic neutron scattering (INS) and Raman spectral study [402]. [Pg.166]

The hydrolysis of substituted phenyl acetates has been studied in the presence of cyclodextrins (Van Etten et al, 1967a, b). No correlation was found between the rate constants for hydrolysis and a for the substituent group. Specificity was directed towards meta-substituents. m-t-Butylphenyl acetate hydrolyses 240 times faster in the presence of 0-01 M cyclohepta-amylose. Comparison of spectral shifts upon inclusion of p-t-butyl and m-t-butylphenol indicated that benzene rings of p-substituted phenols are included within the cavity of cyclodextrins [45], but that the benzene ring of the meta-isomer... [Pg.58]
