Biosynthesis experiments with thioqonate and qranide ions labeled at carbon 14 have shown that they are incorporated in di-isocyanoadociane in the species Amphimedon terpenensis. These ions are thus interconverted by the sponge, and similar results were obtained for the biosynthesis of stylotellanes (Simpson and Garson, 1999) (see Figure 19.51). However, it was not possible to observe incorporation of acetate or mevalonate labeled at carbon 14 in di-isocyanoadociane, also a terpene, but such incorporation does occur in the carotenoids of Amphimedon terpenensis (Garson et al, 1988). [Pg.1033]
