Alphabetical short form

Instead of the alphanumerical group designations -CH3, -C2H5, -C3H7, -C4H9 the alphabetical short forms -Me, -Et, -Pr, -iPr, -Bu, -fBu, -sBu, -fBu can be employed analogously. 

Shortly after Rutherford named those two emissions, a third one was discovered. It was named gamma, the third letter in the Greek alphabet. All of these names can be bewildering, but radioactive emissions actually come in only two fundamental forms electromagnetic radiation and particles. 

The small number of elements that make up our world combine to produce matter in a seemingly limitless variety of forms. We only have to look at the vegetation, flesh, landscapes, fabrics, building materials, and other things around us to appreciate the wonderful variety of the material world. A part of chemistry is analysis the discovery of which elements have combined together to form a substance. Another aspect of chemistry is synthesis the production of new combinations of atoms, new materials, to improve on nature or to produce a greater abundance of substances that are in short supply. If the elements are the alphabet of chemistry, then the compounds are its plays, its poems, and its novels.
