Deactivation in the anion formed under the reaction conditions prevents alkoxy-dechlorination of 4-chloro-2-quinolone (222) with boding alkoxide solution while 4-chloroquinoline and its 2-ethoxy and 2-anilino derivatives react. 4-Chloro-iV -methyl-2-quinolone reacts readily.

N-Aryl- and iV,iV-dialkyl-thiobenzamides react with acid chloride phenylhydrazones to give 5-anilino- and 5-dialkylamino-2,4,5-triaryl-l,3,4-thiadiazolines, respectively. Several addition reactions of unsaturated phosphonic and phosphinic esters have been reported during the course of the year.
