Alkaloids Used for Cancer Prevention

Natural products, especially alkaloids, have been a source of highly effective conventional drugs for the treatment of many forms of cancer. While the actual compounds isolated from a natural source may not serve as the drugs, they provide leads for the development of potential novel agents to treat or prevent cancer, as well as to modulate MDR. As new technologies are developed, some of the agents which were abandoned or failed earlier clinical studies are now stimulating renewed interest.
