Benzoheteropines with fused pyrrole, furan, and thiophene rings, of great interest because of their biological activity, are surveyed by Dr. D.O. Tymoshenko of the Albany Molecular Research Institute, New York. These compound classes were considered in both the first and second editions of Comprehensive Heterocyclic Chemistry as part of a host of related multi-atom heterocyclic systems. Other specialized reviews have appeared. However, the present survey is the first comprehensive treatment.

Larry Yet was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. After graduating with his B.Sc. degree in chemistry from the University of British Columbia working with Professor James P. Kutney on his senior thesis, he continued his graduate studies with Professor Harold Shechter at The Ohio State University, receiving his M.S. degree in 1990 and Ph.D. in 1995. He then carried out postdoctoral research with Professor Douglass F. Taber at the University of Delaware. Since 1996, he has worked at Albany Molecular Research, Inc., as a senior research scientist. 

Other firms specified in Appendix B engage in several businesses of a fully integrated pharmaceutical company, but not in all of them. In the northeastern United States there is Albany Molecular Research in the Midwest near Chicago there is MediChem Research. Both companies offer traditional and modem medicinal chemistry, custom synthesis, and process research and development, among other services. Abbott Laboratories, itself a fipco, also acts as an outsourcer. It offers its services in chemical development and in making advanced intermediates, custom organic chemicals, and peptides.
