Agfa-Ansco

This combine was the old American I. G. Chemical Corporation. From 230 Park Avenue, New York City, its main office governed five subsidiaries, all producing marvels of modem chemistry. They were the Ozalid Corporation of Johnson City, the General Dyestuffs Company, the old Hudson River Color Works, the Agfa-Ansco factory which manufactured cameras and films, and a research plant in Pennsylvania. [Pg.7]

Dyes were the basis of American I. G. Chemical s entire business, just as dyes were the financial and scientific wellspring of all the Farben companies. Yet in a brief memo Farben s president let the American I. G. go. This poetic magnanimity — unless it concealed a desperate gamble of some kind — was more typical of an artist-scientist than of a financial wizard. In January 1939 Biltz sent two letters to Gajewski s private address in Leipzig. In the first letter, of January 3rd, he explained that he had not yet succeeded in finding employment abroad. Jewish organizations would not help him because he, his wife, and his parents were members of the Protestant Church. Biltz informed Gajewski that he had applied for employment with a Japanese company, but that this company s decision would be delayed. An observatory in Pasadena, California had also offered him employment, but to get an American work permit he would have to be temporarily employed at Agfa-Ansco. [Pg.139]

By combining different developers, a variety of image colors can be achieved. For example, combining D-72 with Ansco 120 will produce one image color, while using Agfa 108 and Agfa 105 will produce a different color. The color will vary with the paper and the amount of each developer. [Pg.82]
