Aerogels by Adsorption

The high adsorption capability of aerogels can be used to load them with pharmaceutical compounds. However, the use of aerogels as drug delivery systems depends on their toxicity. Although sol-gel derived materials such as silica xerogels have been widely studied 

The maximum loadings that could be achieved for a number of model compounds (drugs) by adsorptimi from their solutions in supercritical CO2 are shown in Table 31.1.
