Fig. 6 demonstrates the advantage of a fast pressure monitoring for a diffusion experiment on a silica aerogel with a porosity of 96 %, a mesopore size of about 60 nm and a volume of 2x3x4 cm. The fit of the analytical solution for the related diffusion problem [3] to the experimental data taken with the interferometric transducer yields a diffusion coefficient for nitrogen of (19.5 1.5)-10 m /s.
