Adenine base pairing

Base composition- Proportion of the total bases consisting of guanine plus cytosine or thymine plus adenine base pairs. Usually expressed as a guanine -I- cytosine (G -I- C) value, e.g. 60% G-l-C. 

In adenine-adenine base pairs, four of the six possible configurations are realized in crystal structures (Fig. 16.2) ...

Figure 2836 Oxoguanine-adenine base pair. When guanine is oxidized to 8-oxoguanine, the damaged base can form a base pair with adenine through an edge of the base that does not normally participate in base-pair formation.

DNA wound around one another. The sugar-phosphate backbone is on the outside of the helix, and complementary pairs of bases extend into the center of the helix. The base pairs are held together by hydrogen bonds. Adenine base pairs with thymine, and cytosine base pairs with guanine. The two strands of DNA in the helix are antiparallel to one another. RNA is single stranded.
